Minusta ja taiteestani

Taiteelliseen työskentelyni lähtökohdat ovat visuaalinen ajattelu, taidefilosofia ja ympäristöajattelu. Taiteellinen työskentelyni rakentuu luontokuvista, kokeilevasta taidegrafiikasta, kerrosmaalauksista, piirrosmaalauksista ja pienoisveistoksista. 

Pohjoinen on aina ollut minulle merkityksellinen taiteellisen prosessin lähtökohta. Viihdyn avaran ja virtaavan paikkakokemuksen äärellä, mutta yhtä lailla ihmettelen joutomaan reunalla sen karun estetiikan viehätyksen tehoa. 

Teoksissani tulee näkyviin vaellus, retki tai kuljettu matka. Luontokokemus syntyy kuohuvan vesiputouksen äärellä, upottavan suon raskaissa askelissa ja vapauden hengittämisen tunteesta tunturin laella. Koen, että luonto puhdistaa minua ja meitä. 

Taiteessa minua innostaa sen tekemisen hidas hartaus. Luonnon ja paikan ohella teosteni kuvastoa ovat pisara, viivasto, ääni, maa, ilma, värit, vesi ja sen virtaus. 

Piirtämisen jälki johdattaa maisemakuvastoon ja tekemisen rouheus elettyihin hetkiin, maisemaan ja veden olomuotoihin. Ajoittain tavoitan jotain ikiaikaista ja pysyvää. Kokemukseni on aina liikkeessä, ja sen pysyvyys on katoavaista. Se on virtaava kuin vesi. 

About me and my art

My artistic work is based on visual thinking, art philosophy and environmental thinking. My artistic work consists of nature photography, experimental printmaking, layered paintings, drawing paintings and miniature sculptures.

The North has always been a meaningful starting point for my artistic process. I am comfortable with an open and flowing experience of place, but equally I wonder at the edge of the wasteland at the power of its barren aesthetic charm.

My art reveals a hike, an expedition or a journey travelled. The experience of nature is created by a sparkling waterfall, the heavy footsteps of a sinking swamp and the feeling of breathing freedom at the top of a mountain. I feel that nature cleanses me and us.

In art, I am inspired by the slow devotion of making it. Along with nature and place, the imagery in my work is the drop, the line, sound, earth, air, colour and its flow.

The trace of the drawing leads to a landscape catalogue and the roughness of the making leads to lived moments, landscape and water forms. At times I reach for something eternal and permanent. My experience is always in motion, and its permanence is fleeting. It flows like water.
